Police in Mitooma District are investigating circumstances under which a 12-year-old child committed suicide by hanging.
Marcial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson identified the deceased as Jeremiah Amanya, a pupil at Parental Care Kyehimba and a resident of Ngomba 2 cell, Kilembe Parish Katenga sub-county, Mitooma district.
He said the deceased has been staying with his grandmother Komwariro Beatrice but on 25/06/2023 at around 2:pm, the deceased was sent to Katenga trading center to withdraw money from his grandmother’s mobile phone and buy her petroleum jelly.
He was told to dress up well but instead the deceased refused and went in dirty clothes and even forgot the mobile money pin which had been given to him. Tumusiime said the deceased failed to withdraw the money and buy the petroleum jelly.
When he returned he first remained outside but later entered the house and had supper.
According to Haruna Ngambanabo 70 years, chairperson LC1 Ngomba 2 cell, Kilembe Parish, Katenga sub-county in Mitooma District who reported the case to the police, the deceased after supper went outside as if he was going to bath but didn’t go back, they looked for him but couldn’t be seen until on Monday morning, when he was found hanging on a rope in a big coffee tree by Ainomujuni Johnson who reported to his Boss Komwariro Beatrice.
The scene was visited by a team of detectives, postmortem was done at Mitooma health center IV and according to police, the body had no physical injuries.
