In a bid to bolster patriotism among students, 2790 patriots were yesterday commissioned in Kanungu.
Presiding over the commissioning ceremony, the RDC Kanungu, Ambrose Amanyire Mwesigye, sternly warned school administrators resisting the patriotism agenda of potential penalties, citing it as a presidential directive for all Ugandan schools.
Nanjuririra Bruce, the district patriotism coordinator for Kanungu, outlined the objectives of the commissioning, aiming to instill the government’s four principles of patriotism, pan-Africanism, democracy, and socio-economic transformation.
Arineitwe Ezra, the head teacher of Nyanga Community Secondary School, expressed how the commissioning has boosted morale among students, inspiring them to serve their country. However, Ezra highlighted challenges faced by the school, particularly in infrastructure due to its new government-aided status, appealing for support.
Adding to the discourse, Lt. Col. Nahamya Robert, the Division Commander of Mburamizi Barracks, revealed that the army has been training these students militarily, fostering self-love, hard work, and excellence in all facets of life.
The commissioning event signals a concerted effort to promote nationalism within the education system, with plans to make it a routine program in schools across Uganda.
