The minister of security who doubles as the Rujumbura county legislator Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi has advised parents to support their schools on behalf of the government as it continues to work on teachers’ salaries.
Hon. Jim Muhwezi made the revelation on Sunday while presiding over the fundraising ceremony at St. Francis Buhunga High School in Buhunga Sub-county Rukungiri district towards the renovation of a dilapidated four-classroom block.
Minister Jim Muhwezi disclosed that the duty of pupils and students is to learn and not to pay school fees and school management should instead deal with parents and force them to pay schools dues in time for thier children to get good education.
Minister Muhwezi stressed that societies can change through quality education and that relevant education will cause transformation in society a reason why NRM in 1996 decided to introduce Universal Primary and Secondary Education.
He further urged students to concentrate on their books regardless of how the school look if they are to be successful in their academic journey.
He contributed Ugx. 21million to buy all iron sheets to support the renovation work.
Mugisha Julius Kakwara the School head teacher revealed that the school has been facing a challenge of inadequate classrooms to accommodate the increasing number of students brought by the good performance in academics and sports.
Exivier Kasibayo the chairperson organizing committee of the fundraising said parents have done a great work in supporting their school and thanked minister for honoring their invitation and the support he rendered to the cause.
