Masya Church of Uganda in Masya Parish, Nyakajeme Sub-county, Rukungiri District on Sunday saw a multitude of Christians gathering to observe Palm Sunday, marking the commencement of the Holy Week with thousands of palm-waving attendees.

Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, and the messages conveyed during the occasion emphasized themes of peace, tolerance, humanity, and love.

Rev. Bonan Mugiire, the archdeacon of Masya Parish, emphasized the importance of embracing God’s love to combat injustices that breed hatred and violence. He stressed that love surpasses violence and that peace prevails over conflict, urging Christians to prioritize glorifying God over worldly concerns.

Additionally, Christians took the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate their peers by selecting “friends of the year” and exchanging gifts to strengthen the bonds of love within their community.

Rev. Bonan urged Christians to support one another and those in need while avoiding temptations that lead to sin. He encouraged prayer and assistance for those less fortunate, emphasizing the transformative power of love in both individual lives and community dynamics.

Ronald Naturinda, the priest of Masya Church, and Betty Mugisha, the missioner, commended Rev. Bonan for fostering a culture of love among the congregation and urged Christians to demonstrate mercy and compassion towards one another, particularly towards the vulnerable members of society.

Julia Bibyomumishi, leader of the Mother’s Union, along with Fortunate Tumuhereze and Frank Katabaguza, expressed their commitment to embodying Christian love as a tribute to God’s love. They highlighted the significance of selecting Friends of the Year as a means to promote love within the Christian community and encouraged storytelling as a tool for fostering communication and engagement within the church and society.

They emphasized the collective responsibility of individuals to contribute to a peaceful society through the dissemination of love and compassion.
