The 2024 Rukungiri Corporate League was officially inaugurated yesterday, on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, at a grand ceremony held at VCC in Rukungiri town.
Mr. Tumwesigye Maurice, the league’s Chairperson, announced that this season would see the participation of over 20 companies, each contributing UGX 100,000. These companies hail from both within and outside Rukungiri district.
According to Maurice, the 2024 Corporate League’s first event will commence on Sunday, April 7th, 2024, at Rukungiri main stadium. The confirmed sports for this season include tug-of-war, football, volleyball, and indoor games. He also mentioned the classification of companies into three categories: corporate, education, and business.
Akampurira Amos, the league’s vice chairperson, emphasized the numerous benefits of participation, such as enhanced brand visibility, marketing opportunities, social capital development, health promotion through sports, community unity, physical fitness, enjoyment, and institutional team building. He encouraged more companies to join early to enjoy these benefits.
Mr. Atusasire Twine Richie, the league’s Marketing Manager, commended the teams that participated in the previous season and invited those who didn’t to join this season to reap the rewards. He highlighted the opportunity for businesses to boost their sales by participating in the league and gaining exposure.
Mr. Ivan Ahumuza, the league’s spokesperson, cautioned against using illegal players, emphasizing compliance with age and licensing regulations. He warned that teams found in violation risked losing points.
Several prominent companies in Uganda, including Boona Fm, Jimpix Studios, SR Events, and Rukungiri Online TV, have joined as key partners for the league.
In the 2023 season, the “Friends Forever” team from the business class of companies emerged as the overall champions.
