I have been informed that Rukungiri’s Boona FM will go off air tonight at midnight until further notice, following a decision by @UCC_Official. I will not seek to challenge this decision in court. However, I have carefully listened to the voices of the people of Rukungiri, who — rightly or wrongly — believe that the political ambitions of two Generals contesting for office in Rukungiri are now under the eagle’s eye.

In the coming days, one General will likely be accused — and even celebrated — for the closure, in hopes of gaining political advantage. The other may vehemently and cynically champion the reinstatement of Boona FM’s license, also in hopes of political gain. Ironically, this entire drama may end up propelling both Generals to victory.

Did the two Comrade Generals plan this? Perhaps yes, perhaps no. Do their supporters fully understand what is happening? Perhaps yes, perhaps no.

As for me, I believe in free debate. Unless there is evidence of genocidal broadcasting, radio stations should enjoy unrestricted space to operate. The NRA/NRM is an ideological movement that thrives on debate and the contestation of ideas — it is through such debate that lies are extinguished and truth prevails. When the media allows open and robust discussion, superior ideas will ultimately win the day. Our people in Rukungiri and Uganda at large are not naïve; they are capable of discerning logic and truth.

My Prayer:

  1. Let @UCC_Official make public the evidence justifying the closure of Boona FM — the law must be respected.
  2. Let political leaders in Rukungiri resist the temptation to use this issue for partisan advantage or to further divide our people.
  3. Let us remember that NRM regained popular support through resilience and hard work — a commitment exemplified by Gen. @jkmuhwezi, whose dedication remains steadfast. The Boona FM issue should not divide our district or provide unnecessary advantage to opposition forces.
  4. Boona FM has been an integral voice for Rukungiri, Kigezi, and even parts of the DRC. We must find a middle ground to work with Boona FM and keep our people focused on a path of transformation.

Boona FM cannot simply be erased from the story of Rukungiri. Let us approach this moment not with division, but with dialogue — and ensure that the space for constructive debate remains open.
