Residents of Rwabara Cell, Kitembe Parish, Nyarutuntu Subcounty, Ntungamo District, are decrying persistent electricity shortages after power infrastructure that had been installed to serve the area was reportedly removed and taken elsewhere.

According to residents, the cell had previously received electricity poles and even had holes dug in preparation for power connection. However, to their shock, officials allegedly relocated both the poles and a transformer to other areas, leaving the community without electricity.

Speaking to our reporter, Rwabara LC1 Chairperson Aggrey Kiconco expressed disappointment, saying poor leadership had denied the area access to power despite earlier progress.

Other residents shared similar frustrations.
Annet Tumuheirwe said the lack of electricity has worsened service delivery challenges in the area, pointing to water scarcity and rising insecurity.

Florah Kasande, another resident, criticized the authorities for not consulting them before relocating the poles and transformer.

When contacted for comment, Ntungamo District LC5 Chairperson Sam Mucunguzi assured the residents that efforts are underway to ensure every part of Ntungamo District gets electricity.

Residents now await action from authorities, hoping for a speedy resolution that will bring light—and development—to their area.
