Police in Kanungu is holding a 40-year-old man who allegedly murdered a 53 years old man who had rushed to rescue the suspect’s wife from being battered.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman Elly Maate suspect is one Stephen Niwagaba who allegedly murdered Geoffrey Mbahita both residents of Bushanje cell Northern ward Kanungu town council/ district.
It’s alleged that on 19/07/2022 at around 00:10hrs while the deceased was responding to an alarm made by the wife to the suspect as a consequence of a domestic conflict at the suspect’s home.
This annoyed the suspect who engaged the deceased and cut him with a panga several times causing his death.
Thereafter, he fled the scene.
Police was informed by one Banet Atuhaire, the scene was visited and documented by ASP Muhereza Charles, The officer in charge of Kanungu Police station and team, the body was retrieved and conveyed to Kanungu Health center 4 for postmortem.
The suspect who had escaped was later arrested and is now in police custody pending court.
