Local leaders in Nyarwimuka parish, Ruhinda Sub County, Rukungiri district, are expressing concern over the growing number of patients compared to the limited number of health workers at Nyabukumba Health Centre II.

They claim that their parish, despite being composed of voters like other areas in Rukungiri district, is neglected in terms of social services. This is evident as there is only one health worker at Nyabukumba Health Centre II who is overwhelmed with the patient load, leading to many individuals missing out on treatment.

Residents like Amon Asiimwe from Omwibumba village have observed that some patients are resorting to local drug outlets due to frequent drug shortages at the government facility. Benon Bakesigakyi, the Local Council One Chairperson of Omwibumba Cell in Nyarwimuka Parish, suggests that if leaders fail to deliver on their promises made during the 2021 general election campaigns, residents should consider voting them out, as their parish is experiencing a lack of service delivery.

Gershom Murera, the Local Council Two Chairperson of Nyarwimuka parish in Ruhinda Sub County, emphasizes the need for upgrading Nyabukumba Health Centre II to Health Centre III to adequately cater to the high number of daily patients, including expectant mothers.

Despite registering more than 50 patients daily, the health center struggles with a shortage of health workers, with only one worker who also serves as the in-charge. Additionally, challenges such as lack of electricity and clean water further hamper effective service delivery.

Local leaders are urging the government to consider upgrading the health center, deploying more health workers, and renovating the structure to address these challenges.

Despite attempts to inquire from district leaders about the neglect of Nyarwimuka parish, they have not responded to repeated phone calls.
