Residents of Nyarwimuka Parish in Ruhinda Subcounty have raised concerns over the poor condition of the Nyarwimuka–Kakoni–Kyomera road, especially during the rainy season. They say the road becomes nearly impassable and urgently needs murram to improve its condition.
Speaking to our reporter, the LC2 Chairperson of Nyarwimuka Parish, Gershom Muleera, said the road is deteriorating. He acknowledged that although the district attempted to work on the road, it was left unfinished without the addition of murram.
Muleera explained that after heavy rains, it becomes very difficult for people to move from Nyarwimuka to Kyomera.
Johnson Tugamuhangye, vice chairperson of Ihiindiro Cell in Nyarwimuka, echoed the same concerns. He noted that boda boda riders and vehicles struggle to transport goods due to the slippery nature of the road.
He also expressed frustration that the community feels neglected, with poor service delivery in their area, and called for immediate intervention from their leaders.
Job Namara, a resident of Kyomera Cell, also lamented the state of the road. He said it has remained slippery ever since work began on it, but no murram was added. He further revealed that transport fares have increased due to the poor road condition, with a journey from Kyomera to Nyarwimuka now costing 10,000 shillings.
However, when contacted, Rukungiri District Engineer Julius Bagiira acknowledged the poor condition of the road. He assured residents that the district is aware of the problem and plans to gravel the road soon. He mentioned that recent challenges with their tippers had delayed the work, but funds have since been secured, and rehabilitation will begin as soon as possible.
