Concerns have been raised by residents of Omukarere Ruruku Trading Centre, Kagarama Parish, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, about the increasing prevalence of witchcraft in their area.

This issue came to light when a nurse named Jackline, who owns a private clinic in Mukarere Trading Centre, Kagarama Parish, approached Mr. Tumuranye Ivan, a cleaner at KK Kindergarten Nursery and Primary School in the same area. She asked him to compile a list of names of primary seven pupils and give it to her.

When the cleaner questioned the purpose of gathering the names, Jackline stated that she intended to take them to a witch doctor in Kampala to ensure the failure of the primary seven students. Her motive was to have the head teacher dismissed, as she and the head teacher were known enemies.

According to some parents of the primary seven pupils, who chose to remain anonymous, this information came to light after Nurse Jackline slapped Ivan, the cleaner, for not carrying out her instructions.

In response, the cleaner confided in the school’s headteacher about Jackline’s request, who then provided him with a phone to record their conversations. In these recordings, Nurse Jackline can be heard instructing the cleaner to provide her with the names of all primary seven pupils, citing her animosity with the head teacher and her intention to sabotage the students’ performance to jeopardize the head teacher’s job.

Local residents reported that this was not the first time Jackline had been involved in such incidents.

When asked about her involvement, Nurse Jackline, who claimed to be a victim of witchcraft herself, attempted to defend her actions. She explained that she was acting on behalf of a friend in Kampala who wanted to harm the head teacher’s career by causing her to lose her job.

She admitted to receiving the names of the students but insisted she had not taken them anywhere, and the list of 22 primary seven pupils’ names was found at her home.

Jackline sought forgiveness but was denied, and she was subsequently taken to the Rukungiri police station to provide a statement as the investigation continues.

Witchcraft these days is on another level mostly in women though many people don’t believe in witchcraft. The world is gradually rotting and no one cares. Let that nurse be an example so the rest can learn a lesson. May God forgive our land.

I even think about how a nurse is indulging in witchcraft and fail to understand…she should be punished beyond that similar cause
