Food vendors operating at Ntungamo Stage, Rukungiri Municipality, have defied the Municipal planning structure applied to them.

The vendors have encountered disagreements with municipal law enforcement officers, who accuse them of congesting the road, lacking proper identification, and creating a dirty environment.

On Thursday, 9th January 2025, a team of municipal health inspectors issued site orders, but the vendors silently defied the arrangements.

The vendors protested the changes to their stall placements, the disbandment of their leadership, and the addition of unregistered members by municipal authorities.

Dickson Bakama, the chairperson of the vendors, assured that they did not adopt the new system enforcement.

Hillary Amumpaire, the group secretary, revealed plans to petition the municipal town clerk seeking justice.

Arnold Mukama, the defense and head of cleanliness, expressed concern over the excessive force applied and the introduction of strange members.

Charity Kyomuhangi, a member, cited corruption and poor visibility in the allocation of positions.

Bamanyisa Christopher Kashaija, the municipal councilor representing the Eastern Division, consoled the vendors for their resilience amidst challenges, while local leaders advocate for their justice.
