The territorial police in Kabale District have arrested one suspect and are pursuing others for the severe assault of a 14-year-old boy, Obama Ramathani, who was brutally beaten on allegations of criminal activity.

The incident occurred in early December 2024 at Rushambya Cell, Kirigime Ward, Kabale Municipality. According to police reports, Ramathani was accused of attempting to steal from a residence belonging to Orishaba Catherine. The suspects allegedly beat the teenager and later dumped his unconscious body in a nearby bush.

A neighbor discovered the boy in critical condition and alerted his father, Tibanyendera Ramathani, who rushed him to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. Medical examinations revealed that the boy’s injuries had progressed to severe infections, leading to the amputation of both legs after developing complications, including cancer.

The incident was reported to Kabale Police Station on January 1, 2025, under a case of attempted murder. Police visited the scene, collected evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses.

One suspect has been arrested and remains in police custody, though their identity is being withheld to protect the integrity of ongoing investigations. The victim is still receiving treatment at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.

Police inquiries are ongoing as they work to bring all perpetrators to justice.
