Ntungamo District on Tuesday held a budget conference for the financial year 2026/2027.

The conference involved all departments within the district, with each department presenting its achievements that were budgeted for in the financial year 2025/2026.

Dinnah Tumwebaze, the Ntungamo Natural Resources Officer, reported that they have demarcated Munyere wetland in Nyamukana Town Council and restored degraded sections in Rwoho, Kayonza, and Kafunjo Mirama Hills. Dinnah emphasized the need for local authorities to collaborate with district leaders to combat encroachment on wetlands.

Prosper Butubuura, the Ntungamo District Water Officer, highlighted that the Kahama 2 water scheme in Nyabihoko and the Nyabushenyi water scheme project were constructed and commissioned, and the Lanyard scheme in Nyakyera Subcounty was rehabilitated. Prosper, however, revealed that some projects are still ongoing, including the construction of 24,000-litre tanks in Ngoma, Rwoho, and Nyakyera, as well as the extension of piped water to Kanyerere in Rukoni Subcounty, Nyabicence, and Kyafora in Rugarama North Subcounty.

Ntare Dennis, the District Education Officer, reported challenges including many teachers seeking early retirement, high teacher-pupil ratios, poor classrooms and pit latrines in schools, early marriages among girls, and child labor. He noted that in every quarter of the financial year, they attempt to rehabilitate classrooms in poor condition, though financing is insufficient to cover all required improvements in every school.

LC5 Chairperson Samuel Muchunguzi Rwakigoba stated that the conference aids the planning and budgeting process, allowing all stakeholders to share investment priorities and receive guidance on key government policies and programs for development and prosperity. He emphasized the need to focus on infrastructure development in roads, human capital development, and PDM implementation in every household in the upcoming financial year.

Kiza Fedelis, the Ntungamo CAO, acknowledged that budget conferences help unite efforts from different departments to determine what should be included in the budget for the forthcoming financial year.

Ntungamo RDC Mirima Kagiga Mugisha urged all district stakeholders and department heads to unite efforts to fight poverty in homes. She encouraged people to take advantage of government programs such as Emoonga, PDM, and Operation Wealth Creation to boost family incomes and sustain the livelihoods of Ugandans.
