The Ntungamo District Council on Tuesday approved a UShs 76.7 billion budget for the 2025/2026 financial year, aimed at funding wages, service delivery, and development activities across the district.

While presenting the budget before the council, which was presided over by District Speaker Mr. Nicholas Mugyenyi, Finance and Administration Committee Chairperson Ms. Saidat Muhereza, who also represents Rugarama Sub County as a female councilor, revealed that over 60% of the budget will be allocated to the payment of staff wages.

District Chairperson Mr. Mucunguzi Samuel Rwakigoba welcomed the budget, noting that it would significantly enhance service delivery in critical sectors such as road and infrastructure development, education, production, and market access.

Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Fedelis Kizza emphasized that accountability, anti-corruption efforts, and eliminating financial wastage would be top priorities during budget implementation. He assured the council that all allocated funds would be utilized effectively, unlike in previous years where over UShs 6 billion was returned to the central government annually due to underutilization—mostly funds meant for infrastructure projects, staff recruitment, and pension payments.

The district is concluding the 2024/2025 financial year with a UShs 74.6 billion budget, which has reportedly been 85% implemented so far.
