A group of 113 pilgrims from Makiro Parish Denary in Kanungu Town Council, Kanungu District, have successfully arrived at the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine ahead of the annual Martyrs Day commemorations slated for June 3, 2025.

The faithful were flagged off on Sunday, May 17th at around 8:00 AM from Makiro Denary, and after an inspiring spiritual journey of nearly two weeks, they reached the holy shrine on the morning of May 28th at approximately 9:00 AM.

According to Besigye Julius, the chairperson of the group, all 113 pilgrims arrived in good health and high spirits, attributing the success of their journey to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the powerful intercession of the Uganda Martyrs.

Maguru Alkadi from Nyamirama Parish and Alex Ahimbisibwe from Makiro Parish shared that their pilgrimage was not just a physical journey but also a moment of deep prayer for peace, unity, and love within their families and across the nation.

Among the pilgrims was 14-year-old Grace Ampereza from Nyamirama Parish, taking part in her third pilgrimage. Grace expressed profound gratitude for the journey and prayed for her family’s well-being, also seeking divine knowledge and wisdom. She expressed her excitement and strong desire to undertake the pilgrimage again in the future.

Many other pilgrims shared heartfelt prayers for healing, personal renewal, and deliverance. The group extended special thanks to all those who supported them spiritually and financially, notably Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, and Hon. Betty Katabazi Kataba, for their generosity during the journey, which was not without challenges such as heavy traffic.

The Namugongo Martyrs Day attracts thousands of pilgrims from Uganda and beyond to honor the Uganda Martyrs—young Christian converts who were executed between 1885 and 1887 on the orders of Kabaka Mwanga. Their faith and courage remain a symbol of resilience and spiritual devotion.
