A coordinated response by security agencies in Kanungu district has been praised for its swift and peaceful intervention following the emergence of a controversial video that caused public concern.

Over the weekend, residents of Kamutungu village, Nyakatunguru ward, in Kihihi town council were alerted when a video went viral showing a local man, known only as Esau, making dramatic pronouncements calling for political change. The three-minute clip, filmed in a remote wooded area, triggered swift action from local law enforcement and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

By Monday morning, Esau had been located and arrested without resistance at his home. The arrest, led by a joint police and army team, was carried out with professionalism, ensuring no violence erupted and that the community remained calm.

Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Gaddie Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe commended the local community for maintaining peace and cooperating with authorities during the operation. “Our priority is to protect citizens and ensure that individuals who may seek to cause panic or incite unrest are dealt with according to the law,” Rugaaju stated.

The incident has highlighted the importance of community vigilance and rapid security coordination in preserving stability. Residents expressed relief that the situation was handled quickly and without confrontation.

While investigations continue, leaders are calling on the public to remain calm and patient as the legal process takes its course. “Uganda is a country of laws, and we encourage all citizens to express themselves within the framework of the Constitution,” said one local leader.
