The Rukungiri District NRM secretariat has called upon all party voters to observe discipline and uphold the principles of free and fair elections ahead of the LC1 elections slated for Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Speaking on Monday, May 5, the District NRM Elections Officer, Mr. Mugarura Kiiza Jackson, emphasized the importance of adhering to electoral guidelines. He reminded party members that the campaign period officially ends today and warned against misconduct that could lead to arrests. Jackson also underscored the need for proper voter registration and noted that election overseers have been trained to implement the “rally behind” system during the polls.
Meanwhile, NRM District Coordinator Mugarura George expressed confidence in a smooth election process. He attributed this to the unity within the NRM family and the successful completion of pre-election consultations and negotiations.
However, not all voices were in agreement. Ferediana Keviina Mawanda, the woman councilor for Ndorero Ward, criticized the secretariat and election overseers for failing to properly sensitize the public, stating that the lack of clear information could hinder the selection of competent leaders.
On the campaign trail, incumbent LC1 Chairperson for Kagarama B, Kashumbusha Lawrence Tycoon, is seeking a second term, promising to focus on local development and the implementation of the NRM manifesto. His challenger, Mucunguzi Onesmus Jesus, pledged to prioritize community security and ensure prompt service delivery.
In Ruhega, candidate Nimusiima Isaac vowed to address developmental challenges and put an end to the misuse of official stamps in local governance.
The elections are expected to attract significant attention across the district, with hopes high for peaceful and transparent voting.
