The poor condition of roads in Kahoko Parish is causing concern among residents, with the most affected routes being Omukaterero–Kahoko and Kinyamawa, among others. These roads are essential for transporting crops and other goods, but their deteriorating state is making daily life difficult.

Speaking to our reporter, Ahimbisibwe Vastine, a resident of Kinyamawa Village, said they are facing high transport costs due to the need to use longer routes to reach town with passengers and cargo.

She appealed to the relevant authorities to respond to their plight and intervene by constructing better roads.

Byamukama Ambrose, a resident of Kahoko Parish, noted that the current state of the roads poses a danger to their lives, as deep potholes are hazardous, especially during the rainy season. He lamented that despite repeated complaints to the relevant authorities, nothing has been done. He added that previous efforts by residents to fill in the damaged areas with soil have been in vain, as rainwater washes it away.

Byamukama urged district engineers to address the issue by constructing durable roads to ease movement and improve residents’ livelihoods.

In response, Barugahare Johnson, the area councillor for Kahoko Parish and Vice Chairperson LCIII of Nyakagyeme Sub-county, acknowledged the challenge. He said they are often forced to use alternative routes during the rainy season, which is worsened by the rising cost of fuel, as many roads on the outskirts are in very poor condition.

Barugahare called on the relevant authorities to intervene. He explained that while the sub-county aims to work on all roads, the current budget is inadequate. He urged for an increased budget allocation and noted that they are currently focusing on installing culverts at critical crossing points. He asked residents to remain patient as they work to address the issue.
