Police in Rubanda District have arrested Ekyinaheirwe Salimu Joventa, 35, for the alleged murder of her husband, Andrew Byomugabe, a 50-year-old nurse and resident of Ndego Trading Centre, Kashasha Parish in Ikumba Sub-county.
The arrest follows a tip-off from intelligence sources, which led to Joventa’s apprehension in the morning hours of May 4, 2025, at Hamurwa while she was reportedly attempting to flee to Kanungu District.
Contrary to circulating social media claims, police have clarified that no body parts were missing from the deceased at the time of postmortem. The body of the late Byomugabe was found intact.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, investigations into the case are nearly complete, and the suspect will be arraigned in court to face relevant charges.
“Inquiries are ongoing,” ASP Maate confirmed.
The motive behind the alleged murder remains under investigation.
