A tragic road traffic accident on Saturday, May 3, 2025, claimed the life of a boda boda rider in Rukungiri District.
The incident occurred at around 3:50 PM at Nyakatembe B Cell, Garuka Parish, in Bwambara Sub-county. According to police reports, two motorcycles — registration numbers UFZ 296J and UEX 248L, both Bajaj Boxer models — were involved in a head-on collision on a sloping section of a murram road.
The deceased, identified as Nuwamanya Amos, 36, a resident of Kamabare Village, Karangara Parish in Mitooma District, was riding a motorcycle, UEX 248L, heading towards Bwambara Town when he collided with Turyasingura Emmanuel, 29, who was riding in the opposite direction. Both riders were reportedly in the middle of the road at the time of the crash.
Nuwamanya died on the spot, while Turyasingura, a resident of Garuka Parish in Bwambara, sustained injuries and was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for treatment.
Police from the traffic department, led by the District Traffic Officer (DTO), visited and documented the scene. A postmortem was carried out, witness statements were recorded, and both motorcycles were towed to the police yard pending inspection.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident and urged road users to exercise caution, especially on narrow and sloping roads.
