The National Resistance Movement in Rukungiri district is gearing up to carry out a comprehensive update and registration of new party members.

Scheduled to take place from the 13th to the 17th of March this year, this initiative will be conducted at each polling station within every village across the district.

Mugarura Kiiza Jackson, serving as the NRM Elections Officer for Rukungiri district, emphasized that this exercise will strictly adhere to the NRM constitution and its accompanying guidelines.

Jackson underscored the eligibility criteria for registration, specifying that individuals must either be residents of the respective village or migrants who have relocated to the area. Additionally, he emphasized the NRM’s commitment to inclusivity, particularly towards Special Interest Groups such as vulnerable populations, the elderly, and youths. However, he clarified that registration is contingent upon being a Ugandan citizen aged 18 and above, with those aged 16 and 17 being eligible for registration at a later date.

Mutabanura Davis, serving as the Administration Secretary of the National Resistance Movement in Rukungiri district, outlined the procedural aspects of the registration process. He mentioned that copies of registers will be distributed to villages from the 13th to the 17th for verification, updating, and the inclusion of new members into the party.

Mutabanura stressed that registration is exclusively reserved for NRM members and individuals who express a willingness to join the party. He further noted that upon joining, individuals will be required to take an oath affirming their commitment to adhere to the party’s guidelines.
