The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders and flag bearers from Kebisoni Subcounty, Rukungiri District, have intensified preparations for the 2026 general elections with a strong call for reconciliation and unity among party members.

During the NRM structure meetings held today in Kigiiro and Nyibingo Parishes, all in Kebisoni Subcounty, and organized by Hon. Mathius Rwabugumi, the NRM flag bearer for Rubabo Constituency, party leaders emphasized the need to work together ahead of the elections.

Subcounty leaders and flag bearers, including Frank Mabwa, the NRM flag bearer for the Kebisoni Subcounty LC3 seat, and James Tubyamuboona, the Speaker of the Rukungiri District Council and District Councillor for Kebisoni Subcounty, pledged to intensify morale-building and mobilization for President Yoweri Museveni and all NRM flag bearers. They noted that past electoral losses were largely caused by internal divisions, which have repeatedly weakened the party’s strength.

They urged members to put aside old grievances and unite in supporting President Museveni and all party candidates. The leaders stressed that unity is the only way to fully utilize the NRM’s strong grassroots presence, saying the party must move forward “as a family.”

Evas Kobugabe, the Woman Councillor for Kigiiro Parish, noted that unity and working as a family are essential if the NRM is to win, given that the party already has the structures and numbers from the village level up to the district.

She added that to reverse and avoid future losses, the NRM should adopt a campaign strategy that empowers village-level structures to spearhead vote mobilization for President Museveni and other candidates—just as Hon. Mathius Rwabugumi is doing in Rubabo—because his approach has already awakened some leaders who had become inactive.

Hon. Mathius Rwabugumi, the Rubabo Constituency flag bearer, echoed the call for unity while presenting the party’s flag bearers and mobilizing support for President Museveni. He warned that internal divisions weaken the party’s electoral prospects.

Rwabugumi also welcomed four opposition members who crossed over to the NRM: Hope Kyalimpa from Bikungu Cell, Midius Turyasingura (Nalongo), Elius Guma, and Nelson Sheka Mpola. They all pledged to support all NRM flag bearers and President Museveni.
