Tensions are high in Northern Ward, Kebisoni Town Council, Rukungiri District after the area’s electric transformer was blown two weeks ago by heavy rains. Residents are demanding a new replacement so they can regain access to electricity.

Two weeks ago, residents of Northern Ward in Kebisoni Town Council were shocked to find their reliable transformer, located in Omuri Ibiri Cell, blown. They say this has hindered economic development and service delivery, leaving many opportunities stranded.

One of the residents, Mr. Niwamanya Bonus, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, stating that essential opportunities and services are now at a standstill, leaving many people stuck. Although he was not sure whether the issue had been reported to the Rukungiri UEDCL technicians, he urgently called on them to take immediate action.

Currently, areas like Kiborogota, Omukakwampare, Katesane, and Omuri Ibiri remain in darkness, with services completely paralyzed.

Kebisoni Town Council Chairperson Mr. Alex Mugabe Nathan also responded to the concern, stating that he had informed one of the Rukungiri UEDCL engineers and pledged that the transformer would be replaced soon. He called on the affected residents to remain patient since the issue is being addressed.

Boona Radio tried to reach out to the Rukungiri UEDCL office to report and seek accountability regarding the concern, but authorities responded that they are aware of the situation and the transformer will be replaced soon.
