A total of 59 candidates have so far been nominated in the ongoing exercise for Municipality Mayors, Councilors, and Special Interest Group Representatives.

The nomination exercise, which started on Monday, concludes today, marking a key milestone in preparations for the 2026 general elections.

According to the South Western Uganda Regional Electoral Commission Office, 40 candidates were successfully nominated on the first day, with an additional 19 joining on the second day. A bigger turnout is expected before the end of today’s exercise as more aspirants rush to beat the deadline.

The Commission has also encouraged any candidates dissatisfied with the nomination process to submit their grievances in writing to its headquarters in Kampala for review and resolution.

In Kabale Municipality, NRM flag bearer for Mayor, Sam Arineitwe, expressed optimism about the election, pledging to bring transformation and build on the achievements of the current leadership. He, however, faulted the outgoing administration for failing to address key community concerns, including the delayed allocation of central market lockups to rightful vendors, and promised to address such issues if elected.
