The Very Rev. Dickens Baguma has been officially installed as the new Dean of Kinyansano Cathedral under the North Kigezi Diocese, with Christians called upon to embrace unity, faith, repentance and reconciliation as key pillars in overcoming life’s temptations.
The installation ceremony was led by the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, and held at Kinyansano Cathedral premises.
While preaching during the service, Bishop Asiimwe congratulated Ven. Baguma upon his new appointment and urged him to prioritize faith, truthfulness, teamwork and unity in his ministry. He emphasized that success in church revival and effective service to the Lord must be guided by faithfulness, a strong belief in Christ, and the capacity to understand and resolve issues in ways that restore hope among Christians.
The Bishop also called on Christians to practice reconciliation and humanity, especially following the recently concluded General Elections. He urged those involved in politics to reconcile with one another. However, he expressed disappointment with some church leaders who openly took political sides during the elections, accusing them of promoting sectarianism, creating hatred, fueling endless conflicts and damaging the image of the Church.
Instead, Bishop Asiimwe encouraged church leaders and Christians to support political leaders through prayer, asking for blessings and success for all. He also appealed to the Church to comfort and give hope to politicians who lost in the elections, noting that many invested heavily during the campaign period and may now be nursing emotional and financial wounds that need healing.
The Bishop further warned against turning churches into marketplaces. He urged Christians to avoid bringing commodities for sale within church premises, advising them to sell their goods in markets and bring cash offerings instead. He said the practice of selling items in church has led to unnecessary delays in services, as much time is consumed in trade rather than worship.
Guest of Honour Canon Yosiah Twirire, representing Dr. Shekam, also congratulated Ven. Baguma and his wife upon his installation as Dean of Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyansano. He described the new Dean as faithful, loyal, trustworthy and cooperative in all areas where he has served.
Canon Twirire revealed that Dr. Shekam, who sent him as a representative, had gifted Ven. Baguma a cow and also supported him by paying tuition during his course.

The Bushenyi District Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Ngabirano Bakihahoki Emmy, and the Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry Head of Laity—who has been a long-time friend of the newly appointed Dean—commended Ven. Baguma for his patience and strong faith since childhood, qualities they said have enabled him to attain this milestone.
He also applauded the North Kigezi Diocese and Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe for remaining non-partisan during the concluded General Elections and for consistently preaching reconciliation and unity among all participants.
In his remarks shortly after the installation, the newly appointed Dean, Ven. Dickens Baguma, pledged to rely on faith, loyalty and reconciliation as he undertakes his duties in the North Kigezi Diocese. He assured Christians that he would use his position and the support extended to him to promote education in surrounding schools, encourage unity and reconciliation, and strengthen a culture of regular prayer among believers to help them overcome life’s challenges.
