Little Angels Aid Ministry, a community-based organization in Rubanda district, is making remarkable efforts to assist households that have suffered from the devastating landslides by constructing new houses for them.
Our reporter on Tuesday visited Hamutoora village in Butare-Katojo town council, where the organization was actively engaged in constructing a house for a 53-year-old widow.
The widow had been residing in a makeshift small house that was hastily constructed as a temporary shelter after her main house and kitchen were obliterated by a violent hailstorm accompanied by heavy rains on May 2nd, 2023.
Johnbosco Byomugabe, the founder and director of Little Angels Aid Ministry, expressed his determination to mobilize resources through his organization to construct houses for vulnerable families that lost their homes.
He proudly mentioned that they had already completed five houses and aimed to assist 40 households, with a total budget of approximately 800 million shillings.
This budget would be utilized to purchase iron sheets, nails, and other necessary construction materials. Furthermore, it would cover labor costs and provide meals for the workers, among other expenses.
Speaking with our reporter, some of the beneficiaries, such as Oliver Tinyebirwe Rwabugundu from Butare-Katojo and William Ngabirano from Nyakabungo cell in Rubanda town council, expressed immense relief and gratitude for the organization’s efforts.
They had been grappling with the daunting task of constructing new houses with limited financial means, and the support provided by Little Angels Aid Ministry was truly a blessing for them.
It is worth noting that the government recently offered financial support to five families in the district who had lost loved ones due to the landslides. Each family received five million shillings as compensation.
However, those who had lost their entire properties, including their houses, were not considered for this assistance, as the President’s directive only focused on compensating those who had suffered casualties or injuries.
