The new Rukungiri Central Police Station building, commissioned in December 2022 by the Uganda Police, has developed cracks suggesting potential structural issues.

Situated at Rwanyakashesha hill, Eastern division Rukungiri municipality, the facility was constructed by the directorate of engineering, logistics, and construction of the police force.

Construction began on 17th December 2020 and was completed on 05th June 2022, costing Shs 720 million.

The commissioning ceremony was carried out by Charles Birungi, Assistant Inspector General of Police and director of welfare, logistics, and sports, representing Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth-Ochola.

Birungi emphasized during the ceremony that the building was constructed to uphold the police force’s commitment to delivering quality services to the community.

However, recent observations indicate significant cracks both inside and outside the building, suggesting potential structural issues that could compromise its longevity.

An anonymous police officer expressed concerns about the quality of workmanship during construction, attributing the cracks to substandard practices.

He urged the Police Headquarters in Kampala to compel the contractor responsible for the building’s construction to address these deficiencies promptly.

Additionally, he noted discrepancies in the painting, suggesting it did not meet required standards.
