The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, urged Christians to embrace a genuine Christian path during this Lenten season, one that rejects laziness and embodies God’s love for His people.

Speaking at Besania Prayer Mountain Church on Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the forty-day Lenten period, Bishop Onesmus emphasized that fasting is a voluntary act of abstaining from food to devote time to prayer, reflecting the spirit of God’s love and seeking forgiveness for any wrongdoing.

He encouraged individuals to prioritize prayer and repentance during this period and urged them to release any grudges they hold against others, stressing that advising others on fasting and prayer is not necessary.

Beingana Erick Mugyenzi, the Diocesan Secretary of North Kigezi Diocese, underscored the significance of fasting as a time for prayer, sharing, forgiveness, and mutual support.

Maama Gladys Magezi, the wife of the Late Bishop Benon Magezi, called on Christians to remain steadfast in their faith in the one true God, to show respect for one another, and to uphold their dignity as God’s people, knowing that God understands their desires and aspirations.

Rev. Edison Ampeire, the Diocesan Missioner, explained that fasting is a form of communication with God and a quest for His eternal kingdom, urging all Christians to participate actively.

He also announced that the Lenten period will culminate on March 27, 2024, with all Christians gathering at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano for Easter celebrations.
