Mzee Yakoobo Rugaju, the father of Kanungu District Deputy RDC Ahimbisibwe Gad Rugaju, has today (Monday 03 March 2025) been laid in Kabukwenda cell, Nyakatunguru Ward, Kihiihi Town Council, Kanungu District.

Mzee Rugaju passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 100, having been born in October 1924. He had battled prostate cancer for several years.

During the burial, his wife, Mrs. Florah Rugaju, expressed gratitude to the residents of Kihiihi Town Council for their kindness and care towards her husband, especially during his illness. She also thanked their children for being there for their father and urged them to remain united even after his passing.

In their eulogy, the children, led by Maj. Wilber, revealed that their father fell ill in 2009 and was later diagnosed with stage four cancer. Due to the advanced stage of the disease, doctors informed them that surgery was not an option and instead placed him on special medication until his passing last week.

Gad Ahimbisibwe, one of the deceased’s sons, used the occasion to encourage mourners to embrace cancer screening campaigns. He emphasized the importance of early detection, stating that it helps individuals know their health status and start treatment in time if diagnosed with the disease.

Government leaders described the late Rugaju as a visionary, developmental, and loving man who was committed to fostering harmony and progress in his community.

Dear Gad, it’s such a dark and trying moment for you to loose a father. But at the same time we thank God for the 100 years of life and giving him good and responsible children. In soil we come and to soil we return. May God grant our Dad eternal peace, and may you comforted by God.

    Oliver Kwagala.
