The Rukungiri District Scouts Council has announced plans to commence the construction of a multi-purpose hall at Marumba Camping Site in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

The proposed hall, designed to accommodate over 500 people for various functions, is estimated to cost 500 million Uganda Shillings.

The announcement was made today, Monday, 3rd March 2025, during the District Scouts Council session, which also included the election of new council leadership.

The newly elected District Scouts Council leaders are:

  • Jackson Turyahumura – Chairperson
  • Sabiiti Wilson Rutaaba – First Vice Chairperson
  • Gertrude Tushemerirwe – Second Vice Chairperson
  • Enock Akankwatsa Kayanda – District Commissioner
  • Denis Akatukunda – District Executive Commissioner
  • Tuesday Yahaya – Treasurer

Deus Twinomugisha, the Greater Kigezi Region Coordinator who presided over the elections, congratulated the new leadership and urged them to prioritize the construction of the multi-purpose hall to support scouting activities and serve as a venue for public functions.

Enock Akankwatsa Kayanda, the newly elected District Commissioner, acknowledged Rukungiri District’s consistent excellence in national scouting performance. He expressed commitment to sustaining and enhancing this legacy while encouraging parents to support scouting due to its numerous benefits, including youth skill development, physical fitness, and life-saving training through first aid and voluntary work.

Denis Akatukunda, the newly elected District Executive Commissioner, praised the Scouts for demonstrating a democratic leadership transition and transparent service. He called on the public to support scouting initiatives, emphasizing their role in community service, promoting hygiene and sanitation, and equipping youth with innovative skills.
