Muslims in Kanungu District have been urged to uphold the values of unity, compassion, and generosity cultivated during the holy month of Ramadan as they marked Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The call was made by the District Khadi, Sheikh Abudallah Rajjabu Mpabuka, during Eid prayers held at Kihiihi Main Mosque. The celebrations brought together believers from across the district to mark the end of the 30-day fasting period in the Islamic calendar year 1447 AH.
Eid al-Fitr festivities were observed with special morning prayers, sermons, acts of charity, sharing of meals, and social gatherings among families, friends, and neighbors, reflecting a spirit of togetherness and inclusivity.
In his message, Sheikh Mpabuka encouraged Muslims to sustain the discipline, good conduct, and generosity practiced during Ramadan, noting that such values should extend beyond the holy month and guide daily life. He emphasized the importance of moral responsibility, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, particularly among the youth.
He also called on citizens to remain law-abiding, God-fearing, and committed to education, describing it as a critical foundation for a better future. The District Khadi further offered prayers for continued peace and development in Uganda and commended Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his leadership and support to the country.
Meanwhile, the Imam of Kihiihi Main Mosque, Ahmed Jafali, urged Muslims to shun harmful behaviors such as theft and other social vices. He reminded believers that Ramadan is a period of transformation that should result in lasting positive change.
He also appreciated government support to the Muslim community, including contributions of Iftar meals during Ramadan, and encouraged continued collaboration between leaders and communities in advancing development programs such as Parish Development Model (PDM), education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
