The Lions Clubs International community in Ntungamo District has expanded its reach with the induction of new members and the official launch of the Rushenyi Lions Charter.

The milestone was marked during a colorful Charter Celebration held in Rubaare Town Council, bringing together members of Lions and Leo clubs from across the country. The event focused on inducting new members into both the Lions and Leo clubs under the Ntungamo and newly established Rushenyi chapters.

Presiding over the ceremony as Chief Guest, District 411B Governor Allen Tush Naturinda encouraged the newly inducted members to actively participate in club activities and embrace innovation in service. She emphasized that Lions operate on a voluntary basis to support vulnerable communities, noting that acts of service not only uplift others but also build personal character. She also commended longstanding members for their efforts in recruiting and mentoring new members, which has helped extend the organization’s impact across the country.

The President of Ntungamo Lions Club, Joshua Namanya, highlighted several achievements by the club, including environmental conservation initiatives such as tree planting in Ntungamo Municipality and schools. He added that the club has constructed passenger waiting shelters along roads and a patients’ waiting area at Rubaare Health Centre III, as well as supported treatment for patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.

Namanya further revealed that the club has expanded its outreach to young people by establishing Leo clubs in schools such as Kibatsi High School, Ntungamo High School, and Kyamate Secondary School. He noted that these efforts are aimed at nurturing a culture of volunteerism among the youth.

The newly formed Rushenyi Lions Charter, comprising 47 members, was carved out of the Ntungamo Lions Club to broaden service delivery within the community. Its Charter President, Moses Bijura, pledged to strengthen community service efforts and recruit more members to grow the organization’s presence and impact in the area.

The launch of the Rushenyi Charter marks a significant step in expanding volunteer-driven initiatives in Ntungamo District, reinforcing the Lions’ commitment to improving livelihoods and supporting communities in need.
