President Yoweri Museveni has called on Ugandans, especially the youth, to embrace modern agricultural practices as a strategic pathway to increased household income and national development.

During his oversight of the NRM village-level elections in Rwakitura Cell, the President emphasized the transformative power of zero grazing, irrigation, and improved pasture management. He used the platform not only to commend the community’s strong political engagement but also to highlight agriculture as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

“With proper management, even a single acre can support up to eight cows,” President Museveni said, pointing to the success of Richard Nyakana, a farmer from Kabarole, who has maximized output from limited land through intensive methods. The president pledged continued government support for solar-powered water systems and pasture development to help farmers in dry regions improve productivity.

Importantly, Museveni urged families to resist subdividing land, advocating instead for joint farming ventures that ensure land remains productive and profits are equitably shared. This, he said, would ensure long-term food security and wealth generation.

The President’s message resonated strongly with local leaders, including Kiruhura District NRM Chairperson Nzeire Kaguta, who praised his commitment to empowering rural communities.

This renewed focus on youth-led modern farming positions agriculture not just as a livelihood but as a viable enterprise that can lift entire communities out of poverty.
