Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, the Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, has called on Ugandans to adopt regular medical checkups as a vital part of their lifestyle to safeguard against diseases that may develop without early symptoms. His appeal came during a tribute to the late Vincent Byarugaba at Nyakashaka Catholic Church in Kyatoko Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Hon. Rutahirwa emphasized that early detection is crucial in preventing diseases from progressing to severe stages. He noted that information gathered through medical screening can empower individuals to take preventive action, thus reducing the risk of long-term complications.

Reflecting on the sudden death of Vincent Byarugaba, who fell ill with fever and tragically passed away en route to the hospital, Dr. Rutahirwa described medical checkups as a form of preventive medicine. He stressed that health workers can identify early signs of diseases such as tuberculosis, liver, kidney, and heart diseases, as well as cancer, before symptoms become apparent.

To support this health initiative, Hon. Rutahirwa announced a free medical screening event scheduled for November 13th to 15th at Rwamahwa Health Center IV. During the event, specialists equipped with advanced diagnostic machines will offer checkups for various illnesses. He urged all residents of Rukungiri to take advantage of this opportunity, underscoring that early intervention could prevent costly treatments in the future.

“I call on all residents to come and undergo these medical checkups. Detecting a health issue early can make all the difference and save lives,” he said.

The late Vincent Byarugaba, who passed away at the age of 65, was a respected educator who served as a teacher and head teacher in various government schools under the Rukungiri District Local Government until his retirement. He is survived by two wives and seven children.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
