Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances under which a 40-year-old man was lynched by a mob.
The incident occurred in Kabande B, LC1, Nkanga Sub County, Bushenyi District, and was reported on 9th November 2024.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Mutagwenda, a 40-year-old casual worker and resident of the mentioned area.
It is alleged that the deceased was known in the community for stealing people’s property, including cattle. On the evening of 8th November 2024, a group of residents armed with sticks and pangas attacked and fatally assaulted him, accusing him of theft.
John Patrick Bagarukayo, an 84-year-old peasant and chairperson of Kabande B, LC1, reported the case to the police. He noted that a physical examination of the body revealed deep cuts on the head and bruises with cane marks.
Tumusiime stated that the body was taken to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary in Sheema District for a postmortem, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
