The territorial police in Kabale district are investigating a tragic incident in which a 23-year-old man, Mutabazi Peter, a resident of Nyarungwe village, Katokye parish in Kyanamira sub-county, was killed by a mob over allegations of repeatedly mistreating his biological father, Turyamureba John.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on the 9th of July 2025 at around 2:00am at Rubira trading center in Katokye parish. Police were informed by a concerned resident that Mutabazi had been lynched by unknown individuals.
Investigations reveal that Mutabazi had previously been accused of assaulting his father and stealing his property. On the night of 8th July 2025, local residents reportedly arrested him and took justice into their own hands, beating him to death.
A case of murder was first registered at Kyanamira Police Post and later transferred to Kabale Central Police Station. The crime scene was visited and documented by detectives, statements were recorded from witnesses, and a postmortem was conducted to aid further investigations.
Police condemn the act of mob justice and urge members of the public to always seek lawful channels when dealing with suspects. Taking the law into one’s hands is a criminal offense and undermines justice.
Inquiries are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the mob action so they can be brought to book.
