The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance has rolled out a seven-day residential cadre training program in Kanungu District at Kinkizi High School.
The program fosters patriotism, pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy. It brings together leaders and citizens from the Kigezi Sub-Region to enhance their understanding of national values and strengthen their participation in government programs.
The guest of Honour, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, officially opened the training. He underscored the importance of Ugandans embracing the spirit of the NRM’s Ten-Point Program to avoid reverting to foreign domination. Drawing lessons from the painful history of colonial rule and the slave trade, Dr. Baryomunsi emphasized the need for unity, self-reliance, and a collective national vision.
The LC3 Chairperson for Kambuga, Mr. Mari Leonard, commended the Ministry for organizing the training. He noted that it equips participants with the knowledge required for responsible citizenship and exemplary service.
Kanungu District’s Resident District Commissioner, Ambrose Amanyire Mwesigye, urged the people of Kigezi to rally behind government programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga. He stressed that these initiatives are critical for economic growth and citizens’ well-being.
Mutabazi Emmanuel, the head teacher of Kinkizi High School, highlighted the digital challenges his school faces. With over 1,000 students and fewer than 20 computers, Mutabazi appealed to the Minister to mobilize resources to support the school’s ICT programs. In response, Dr. Baryomunsi pledged to provide 30 computers to the school, promising to strengthen its capacity for digital skills training and broaden students’ knowledge bases.
Participants in the training are engaged in interactive sessions led by experts, practical demonstrations with model farmers, and a pass-out parade facilitated by military and police instructors. The program also addresses critical issues such as gender equity, HIV/AIDS prevention, and environmental awareness, ensuring a comprehensive approach to national development.
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s mandate under Uganda Vision 2040 to promote mindset change and empower communities to embrace sustainable development. As the training unfolds, it is expected to leave a lasting impact on the people of the Kigezi Sub-Region, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to drive socio-economic transformation.
Stay tuned as we continue to bring you updates on this transformative program.
