The Ministry of Education has announced that the selection exercise for individuals aspiring to pursue careers in technical and vocational education training (TVET) institutions will take place from February 3rd to February 7th, 2025.

This important exercise will be conducted at designated regional centers, where interested applicants can obtain application forms. The regional centers include:

  • Gomba Community Polytechnic for the Central Region.
  • Mbale Community Polytechnic for Eastern Uganda.
  • Bobi Community Polytechnic for the Northern region.
  • Kakiika Technical School in Mbarara City for the Western region.

In addition to the regional centers, application forms will be available at city, municipal, and district education offices; TVET institutions countrywide; the Ministry of Education headquarters; and online via the ministry’s official web portals: tvet.go.ug and education.go.ug. The submission deadline for all applications is January 31st, 2025.

Exciting Opportunities for Applicants

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to enroll in a wide range of programs offered at Uganda Community Polytechnic Certificate (UCPC) institutions. These programs, which are available on both government and private sponsorship, run for a duration of three years and culminate in the award of the UCPC qualification.

According to Narasi Anyijuka Kambaho, the Principal Public Relations Officer for the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB), candidates who scored Division 1 to Division 4 in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), assessed by UNEB, are eligible for selection. Applicants will also be required to attend a competency interview to complete the selection process.

A Commitment to Skills Development

The Ministry of Education officially released the 2024 PLE results on January 23rd, 2025, paving the way for eligible candidates to participate in this exercise. This initiative is part of the government’s continued prioritization of technical and vocational education since 2019, with a focus on promoting science and technology as key drivers of national development.

This effort aligns with the goals of the National Development Plans (NDP III and IV), which emphasize equipping Ugandans with practical, employable skills to address the country’s high unemployment rate. Despite the large number of university graduates—over 70,000 annually—many lack the technical skills required in the job market, according to the National Planning Authority.

The Ministry of Education encourages all eligible Ugandans to seize this opportunity to build a bright future through technical and vocational education. By fostering a skilled workforce, the government aims to drive innovation, create employment opportunities, and support the country’s socio-economic transformation.
