The State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitse, has advised legislators from Kisoro District to avoid misleading public servants regarding hard-to-reach allowances and instead address these concerns with the appropriate authorities.

Speaking as the guest of honor at a farewell ceremony for twenty-two retired head teachers at Mubano Hotel on Saturday, Minister Mateke addressed the teaching community in Kisoro about the discontinuation of hard-to-reach allowances. She urged teachers not to resort to hostile actions to pressure the government and emphasized that complaints about allowances are unwarranted as salaries are mandated by policy as the required form of payment. She called on Kisoro leaders to unite in resolving the teachers’ difficulties rather than encouraging counterproductive actions.

Bufumbira North MP John Kamara Nizeyimana, present at the ceremony, noted that the discontinuation of the hard-to-reach allowances affected only certain schools. He advised teachers to invest their earnings in productive ventures.

Kisoro District Chief Administrative Officer Badru Mayanja committed to addressing the issues raised about district officers and stressed that all servants should comply with government policies.

Kisoro District Governor Abel Bizimana, also in attendance, acknowledged corruption within the service commission, which has adversely affected service delivery.

The retirees were honored with certificates, goats, and money, expressing their happiness with the recognition.
