In a jubilant ceremony, 230 Christians were confirmed as true Catholics through the sacrament of Holy Confirmation at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Buyanja, Rukungiri District. The event marked a significant milestone for the parish, which was commissioned last year. The congregation gathered with immense joy to welcome the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Calist Rubaramira, for his second visit since the parish’s inauguration.
During the Mass, Bishop Rubaramira encouraged the faithful to open their hearts and repent to fully receive God’s gifts through Christ. He emphasized the importance of spiritual readiness and devotion in the Catholic faith.
Jane Neema, the vice chairperson of the Parish Council, expressed her gratitude to Bishop Rubaramira for his return to confirm the pioneer Catholics of the newly established parish. Neema highlighted several parish projects, including two secondary schools, four primary schools, and one church school. She commended the cooperation of the Christian community, which has driven significant development in the parish.
The Woman Member of Parliament for Rukungiri, Hon. Medius Natukunda Kaharata, also attended the function. She praised the Bishop for his dedication and service to the parish. Additionally, Kaharata thanked the Christians for their trust and support, sharing her recent recognition as the leading female debater in parliamentary debates by a local newspaper. She urged the community to embrace and participate in government programs aimed at fostering development.
The ceremony at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Buyanja was a testament to the growing faith and unity within the community, marking a new chapter of spiritual and developmental progress in the region.
