State Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi, commended the family of the late Apollo Nyegamehe, also known as Aponye, for sustaining his business empire a year after his untimely death. Minister Musasizi delivered his remarks today at a memorial service for Aponye, held at St. Luke Muhanga Catholic Parish Church in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District. The service was led by Msgr. John Vianney Sunday, Vicar General of the Kabale Diocese.

Nyegamehe, who also served as the Rukiga District NRM Chairperson, tragically passed away on July 1, 2023, in a car accident at Itojo on the Ntungamo-Mbarara road. Minister Musasizi expressed his gratitude to the family, shareholders, board of governors, and staff for their concerted efforts in maintaining the business.

Ben Tukwasiibwe, head of communications at Aponye Uganda Ltd, highlighted that the company employs around 500 people directly, with approximately 1.5 million Ugandans depending on it both directly and indirectly.

The late Nyegamehe’s widow, Vangilista Mugabiirwe Nyegamehe, emphasized their commitment to preserving her husband’s legacy through regular evaluation meetings, technical support from former business partners, loyalty from commodity suppliers, and dedication from the company’s employees. Ms. Mugabirwe expressed her gratitude to the workers for their steadfastness following her husband’s passing.

In his homily, Msgr. John Vianney Sunday encouraged the Nyegamehe family to continue their financial support for the Church and to maintain their faith in God.

Before his death in July 2023, Nyegamehe had donated up to Ug. Shs. 1.45 billion to the construction of St. Luke Muhanga Catholic Parish Church. The family announced plans to donate an additional Ug. Shs. 1 billion to fulfill his pledge of 1.55 billion for the beautification of the church, situated just a few meters from his residence in Muhanga Town Council.
