Members of the Rotary Club of Rukungiri District 9214 composed of Uganda and Tanzania on Sunday 27th August 2023 joined the rest across the Country in the cancer run.

The Cancer Run was aimed at raising money to contribute towards this year’s proposed 2 billion shilling to continue the construction of the Cancer Institute at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala District.

A total of 13.8 billion is required to complete the work whereas 4.63 billion has so far been raised and they are targeting to raise over 2 billion this year.

Runners were flagged off by the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo who was the chief runner at Rukungiri Inn, and proceeded towards Karegyesa Road along Old Court Street – Farmers – Kinyasano Road – Roundabout – Go down up to Rukungiri Main Stadium.

Walkers began at Rukungiri Inn and proceeded to Republic Road – Roundabout moved down up to Rukungiri Main Stadium.

Ariho Gilbert, a student and a member of Young Rotarians at Kashenyi Secondary School expressed gratitude towards participating in the run noting that his joy is in helping the needy.
In a message from the Managing Director of Centenary Bank Fabian Kasi delivered by Semakula John Mary of Centenary Bank Rukungiri Branch revealed that Centenary Bank as one of the leading partners, this year contributed 300 million and called on counterpart organizations to come up and support the noble cause of saving lives in the country.

Morrison Murindwa, the President Rotary Club of Rukungiri revealed that they organised the marathon to show awareness about the disease, come together to raise money as well and show solidarity under their charity work of restoring hope and enabling the needy access to suitable health services.

Steven Bewayo Nsubuga commended Rotarians under their clubs across the Country for tremendous work done in partnership with the government towards elevating health, Education, Environment, and infrastructure sectors among others in the country.

He challenged people that the Rotary Club is not a group of rich people but a group of all willing individuals and called on non-members to join for its diverse benefits.
