The parish priest for St Luke Mitooma church of Uganda parish Rev. Edison on Sunday challenged Married couples to respect one another to have peaceful families.
He echoed this in a Sunday service at Bugarama church of Uganda in St Luke Mitooma parish Nyakagyeme arch deaconry North Kigezi diocese where congregants of the church were celebrating St Peter’s Day.
Worldwide, St Peter’s Day is celebrated every 22nd July to commemorate this saint as a patron for married men.
Rev. Edison blamed the high rate of domestic violence in Uganda on men’s failure to fulfill their duties, thereby imploring them to take a good example of Saint Peter.
He also challenged women to know their responsibilities as well which he said would greatly support development.
Medard Kyarimpa the Bugarama church of Uganda Fathers Union leader said as men they remember St Peter as a man who was hard-working, and exemplary.
A total of 1,193, 900 was collected on the celebrations and according to the Bugarama church of Uganda lay reader Jackson Niwagaba these funds will be paid as the diocesan quarter.
Jackson further revealed that as a church they have already started coffee planting in the idle land of the church, to meet the North Kigezi 6th bishop’s campaign of coffee growing to eradicate poverty.
