The late Archbishop of Mbarara, Emeritus Paul Kamuza Bakyenga was on Sunday laid to rest inside Nyamitanga Cathedral in Mbarara City.
Bakyenga died on Tuesday this week at Nsambya Hospital at the age of 79 after a long illness.
The ceremonies saw the fallen archbishop commended for his work as a servant in the church, who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his people in faith, health, and education among many other sectors of life.
Representing the president, the vice president, Jessica Alupo called on many to emulate the Archbishop.
According to President Museveni, the government and Uganda as a whole will miss him for his wise counsel and practical approach to religion, which saw him transform people’s lives.
In his message read by Vice President Rtd. Maj. Jessica Alupo, the President, contributed condolences of Ugx 20 million.
While delivering his message, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa said that despite Bakyenga being a top religious leader, he did not shy away from supporting the development of the country.
Tayebwa described the late as a rare breed of preacher whose message could deeply resonate with the congregation.
He further praised Bakyenga for establishing many parishes, specifically Kigarama, his home parish which spearheaded the spread of the gospel.
In standing with funerals of this caliber, the army put on a seven-gun salute for the fallen prelate.
