Senior Presidential Advisor on Public Relations Mary Karooro Okurut urged widows in West Ankole Diocese to view themselves as capable and resilient rather than defeated by the loss of their spouses.
Speaking at Butsibo Church of Uganda during the launch of Ruth Ministries, which aims to improve the lives of widows, Karooro acknowledged that many women lose hope after their partners pass away. She highlighted that some widows engage in questionable behaviors under the guise of seeking survival, particularly those who have lost their loved ones at a young age.
Karooro expressed gratitude to the church minister for his vision in organizing widows and providing support for their well-being and financial literacy.
Rev. Amon Tumusiime noted that when he was assigned to the church, he observed that there were more women than men, as many men had passed away long ago. He mentioned that this situation has encouraged the widows to unite and collaborate on various economic activities, improving their families’ lives.
