The Kabale District Health Department has announced the lifting of mandatory COVID-19 tests for travelers at the Katuna border in South Western Uganda, located in Kabale District.
Since the reopening of the Katuna border on March 7, 2022, travelers have been required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 tests to curb the spread of the virus at the border crossing.
Previously, travelers with valid PCR COVID-19 test results were permitted to enter Uganda or cross into Rwanda, while those with RDT COVID-19 test result documents were required to pay Shs100,000 for PCR COVID-19 testing.
Dr. Gilbert Arinaitwe Mateeka, the Kabale District Health Officer, acknowledged this recent development and confirmed that the port health Clinic team at Katuna no longer demands travelers to present COVID-19 test results as a condition for travel.
Dr. Mateeka emphasized that travelers are now required to have an up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination status.
However, he clarified that screening will continue as usual to identify individuals displaying signs and symptoms of COVID-19, who will then be subjected to tests to ensure safe cross-border movement.
