Police in Rukiga are investigating a fatal road crash that claimed the lives of two motorcyclists along the Ntungamo–Kabale highway.
The accident occurred on April 16, 2026, at around 8:15 p.m. at Nyakanengo Cell. One of the deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Alex Mugisha, a market vendor and resident of Katoma Cell in Rwahi Parish, Ntungamo District. The identity of the second rider had not yet been established by press time.
According to police reports, the two motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions when the crash happened. The rider of motorcycle registration number UFH 513S, who was heading toward Kabale and carrying a passenger, reportedly lost control, veered out of his lane, and collided head-on with motorcycle UEW 824U, ridden by Mugisha.
Mugisha died instantly at the scene, while the other rider was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
Police visited and documented the scene, and both motorcycles were towed to Muhanga Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
“We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash,” said Maate, urging all road users to observe traffic regulations and exercise caution to prevent such tragedies.
