Police in Rubanda District are investigating the suspected murder of a man identified as Edson Orikiriza alias Ntugusa, a casual laborer and resident of Hamuhambo Cell, Kagarama Parish in Hamuhambo Town Council.
According to police, the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, August 24, 2025, at around 4:30am in Hamurambi Cell, Kagarama. Orikiriza’s lifeless body was discovered later at about 7:00am with deep cuts on his head, raising suspicion of foul play.
The area chairperson, Mr. Benon Turyahebwa, was informed and he immediately reported the matter to police at Lake Bunyonyi. A team of detectives from Rubanda Central Police Station responded, visited the crime scene, and conducted documentation. A police surgeon carried out a postmortem at the scene.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are ongoing to establish the perpetrators and the motive behind the killing.
Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate by providing any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
