Police in Buhweju District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 28-year-old man who was reportedly lynched by a mob.

The deceased, identified as Turinawe Wilber, was a peasant residing in Malinde village, Kajumbura Parish, Engaju Sub-county, Buhweju District.

According to reports, on April 10, 2024, at an unspecified time, it is alleged that the deceased unlawfully entered the chicken coop of Annah Twinobusingye, a resident at the aforementioned address, and stole four hens.

David Karuhije, the 47-year-old chairman of Malinde village, stated that the commotion caused by the stolen hens woke up their owner, who then raised an alarm, prompting other residents to pursue the thief. Tragically, the pursuit resulted in the lynching of Turinawe Wilber.

Marciel Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident, mentioning that police detectives have already visited the scene. They have subsequently transported the deceased’s body to Nsiika Health Center IV as investigations into the matter continue.
